Interview Notes:

Ann Garvin, bestselling author and founder of the @tallpoppywriters chats about her latest novel, I THOUGHT YOU SAID THIS WOULD WORK, which has shot up the Amazon charts in April and has already reached #1 in many categories including humorous women’s fiction.

This is road trip book that will make you laugh, cry and then laugh again. We talk about her inspiration for the latest novel, how the novel is perfect for animal lovers, and the metaphor of traveling cross-country to save a dog, and being VW Bug lovers.

Ann shares how she visited the real-life heaven of an animal sanctuary in the book; canyons of animals!

Also going from laughter to tears and back again; in life and in books, and how life is full of the weird and unexpected that you just can’t make up.

Ann fan-girls just a little over Lauren Fox, who wrote a beautiful review of Ann’s latest (check out Lauren Fox’s bestselling novel SEND FOR ME).

Another recommended reads is FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT by Elle Cosimano which Ann describes as well-written, great plot and it’s hard to write a funny book; and Elle succeeded.

Ann’s writing advice includes don’t love yourself or your writing too much, the joy of writing at your own pace and how you never know what someone else’s writing life looks like behind the scenes Also how art is never an either/or…and there is no one right way. Also the stress of publishing deadlines and how to avoid extinguishing your fire as an author.

Don’t miss Ann’s podcast COME SIT BY ME that just launched (we recorded this a few weeks ago when it wasn’t out yet). In the new podcast, Ann answers your questions in five minutes– Find it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify & speak.studio!
